SLOVENIA’S VITAMIN SEA
Although Slovenia’s coast measures less than 50 kilometres, it is definitely worth the visit. You can explore its beautiful small cities with narrow streets and stone houses, spoil your taste buds with exquisite local food and wines, take a refreshing swim in the sea or just enjoy a cup of coffee on the beach.
The Slovenian Riviera is located in the south west of the country and is home to small cities, which are a unique blend of Roman, medieval and Venetian influences. It is a combination of beauty of nature and diverse cultural heritage, a must-see in any season. Piran, a romantic small town located on a peninsula, is considered one of Slovenia’s most charming places, since it is full of Venetian Gothic architecture, has beautiful small beaches and boats to rent. Koper has a medieval core and Izola is known for its good restaurants, while Portorož invites the locals and tourists with sandy beach and holiday attractions. And then there’s the Sečovlje salt pans landscape park, where you can see how the salt was harvested in a traditional way.
And if, by any chance, you get bored relaxing on the beaches or exploring small towns, Slovenia’s coast has one more trick up its sleeve. It is only minutes away from countless other sight-seeing attractions, such as the Škocjan Caves – underground world, listed among the UNESCO world heritage sites, and one of the most famous caves with the deepest and largest underground canyon in the world.
The Slovenian coastline is basically a short drive away, from anywhere in Slovenia. You could be on a business meeting in the country’s capital at noon, and enjoy relaxing afternoon at the sea on the same day. Or you can simply decide to jump to the seaside for dinner. Visiting this part of Slovenia will recharge your batteries whenever you come.
