Big (and delicious) news for small Slovenia!
Slovenia has just become a European region of Gastronomy for 2021 and this prestigious title will be officially awarded to the country on 8th of October in Brussels.
The European Gastronomic Region Expert commission which visited Slovenia was impressed by the gastronomic richness of the country and its commitment to sustainability and culinary activities. And impressions were well-deserved. In the last year, this gem in the heart of Europe is developing its culinary art with mouth-watering speed and is making its exquisite taste known to the whole world.
As part of its candidacy, Slovenia also presented a book with the title “Taste Slovenia”, which features gastronomic specialties and other gastronomic projects, such as beekeeping, increasing quality of life, connection of gastronomy with tourism, education on the field of health and sustainable living and sustainable development of gastronomy. Until now, only ten regions have been awarded the title.
Slovenia is already famous for its local specialties, made of quality and home-grown ingredients and authentic combination of tastes and Slovenian chefs are successful at home and abroad. If, for example, the recent success of chef Ana Roš winning Michelin star hasn’t already put Slovenia on the global culinary map, this prestigious title surely will. For Slovenia, this is a great opportunity to promote its gastronomic tradition and art, on both local and international level. Also, Slovenia’s cuisine is one of the key products, with which the country wants to ensure the growth of tourism, so winning the title is proof that Slovenia is on the right track!
