The country prides itself on being one of the top destinations for responsible and sustainable tourism in Europe!

Slovenia is getting a lot of ‘green’ attention lately. This year, ITB Berlin ranked it as one of world’s top 10 sustainable destinations and it received the label Green Destination, while the cities of Ljubljana and Podčetrtek now carry the title Slovenia Green Destination Gold. International jury awarded Slovenia the title for its dedication to sustainable tourism and best practices, on the basis of more than 100 different criteria.

Slovenia’s green success started with the Slovenian Tourist Board which developed strategic guidelines for green tourism, with the goal of making the country sustainable. This led to development and promotion of high-quality tourist offers with sustainability being the added value. The Slovenian Tourist Board also achieved amazing results by developing the national programme called the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism, its main objective being introducing sustainable models to both tourism service providers and destinations, taking into consideration economic, social, cultural and natural environment.

And that’s not all. Slovenia was also declared the winner of the World Legacy Award by National Geographic. This award honours countries for their sustainable tourism, and National Geographic praised Slovenia for its forests, biotic diversity, well-protected natural habitats and its cultural heritage.

And even that’s not all. We were first in Slovenia to get the Travellife certificate – certificate that proves a certain business meets sustainability criteria. Travellife is dedicated to making holidays more sustainable and helps travel businesses around the globe improve their social, economic and environmental impacts.

Come to Slovenia and see that here, green is much more than a colour!

Slovenia has just become a European region of Gastronomy for 2021 and this prestigious title will be officially awarded to the country on 8th of October in Brussels.

The European Gastronomic Region Expert commission which visited Slovenia was impressed by the gastronomic richness of the country and its commitment to sustainability and culinary activities. And impressions were well-deserved. In the last year, this gem in the heart of Europe is developing its culinary art with mouth-watering speed and is making its exquisite taste known to the whole world.

As part of its candidacy, Slovenia also presented a book with the title “Taste Slovenia”, which features gastronomic specialties and other gastronomic projects, such as beekeeping, increasing quality of life, connection of gastronomy with tourism, education on the field of health and sustainable living and sustainable development of gastronomy. Until now, only ten regions have been awarded the title.

Slovenia is already famous for its local specialties, made of quality and home-grown ingredients and authentic combination of tastes and Slovenian chefs are successful at home and abroad. If, for example, the recent success of chef Ana Roš winning Michelin star hasn’t already put Slovenia on the global culinary map, this prestigious title surely will. For Slovenia, this is a great opportunity to promote its gastronomic tradition and art, on both local and international level. Also, Slovenia’s cuisine is one of the key products, with which the country wants to ensure the growth of tourism, so winning the title is proof that Slovenia is on the right track!

In the last decades, several industries in Slovenia are expanding, the main being automotive, chemicals & pharmaceuticals, electrical & electronics, information and communication technology, not to mention tourism, which is continuously on the rise in the last years. The tourism sector, is in fact, the most dynamic and is undergoing strong development.

Slovenia’s successful industry and vibrant economic activity pride itself on highly specialized workforce, well-developed infrastructure and product-oriented businesses. Almost two thirds of the working population are employed in services and the country’s trade is oriented towards EU countries, with growing markets also in Eastern Europe and the rest of the world.

We are sure you’ve already heard of some of Slovenia companies and their highly successful products, the Elan skis and Pipistrel ultra light planes, to mention only two of them? Slovenia’s businesses and innovative products are constantly breaking into foreign markets, in numerous industry fields – making them also ideal for foreign investors. Other advantages of business ventures also include adaptability of companies, favourable business legislation, investment incentives and investment tax allowances.

In terms of industries and industry investments, Slovenia sure is a very promising country to start or expand a business – in basically any field imaginable.

Although Slovenia’s coast measures less than 50 kilometres, it is definitely worth the visit. You can explore its beautiful small cities with narrow streets and stone houses, spoil your taste buds with exquisite local food and wines, take a refreshing swim in the sea or just enjoy a cup of coffee on the beach.

The Slovenian Riviera is located in the south west of the country and is home to small cities, which are a unique blend of Roman, medieval and Venetian influences. It is a combination of beauty of nature and diverse cultural heritage, a must-see in any season. Piran, a romantic small town located on a peninsula, is considered one of Slovenia’s most charming places, since it is full of Venetian Gothic architecture, has beautiful small beaches and boats to rent. Koper has a medieval core and Izola is known for its good restaurants, while Portorož invites the locals and tourists with sandy beach and holiday attractions. And then there’s the Sečovlje salt pans landscape park, where you can see how the salt was harvested in a traditional way.

And if, by any chance, you get bored relaxing on the beaches or exploring small towns, Slovenia’s coast has one more trick up its sleeve. It is only minutes away from countless other sight-seeing attractions, such as the Škocjan Caves – underground world, listed among the UNESCO world heritage sites, and one of the most famous caves with the deepest and largest underground canyon in the world.

The Slovenian coastline is basically a short drive away, from anywhere in Slovenia. You could be on a business meeting in the country’s capital at noon, and enjoy relaxing afternoon at the sea on the same day. Or you can simply decide to jump to the seaside for dinner. Visiting this part of Slovenia will recharge your batteries whenever you come.

Slovenia, due to its geographical position and favourable conditions, developed many health and wellness resorts and spa tourism has been flourishing for years. Resorts are renowned for natural healing elements, such as thermal water, mineral water or seawater in combination with modern medicine to ensure guests forget about work, career, stress, pains, illnesses and everyday problems. Although most wellness resorts are found in the Eastern part of the country, one can escape the city life basically anywhere – in the Pannonian Plain, in the Karst region, at the seaside and even in the Alps.

One of the most famous Slovenia’s spas is found at Radenci, where visiting guests can enjoy favourable climate and the famous thermal spring, known to treat many physical conditions. Another unique resort is Terme Lendava, where healing water is of fossil origin and is soothing to the skin. Terme Čatež is Slovenia’s largest natural health spa, located next to the rivers Krka and Sava and is the largest tourism resort in the country with thermal water temperature ranging from 42 to 63 degrees Celsius at source. And, of course, we can not forget the world-famous Rogaška Health Spa with its mineral water that is extremely rich in magnesium and people from all over the globe have benefited from its powers, since it helps treat gastroenterological disorders and metabolic diseases.

Slovenian spas are indeed a paradise for body and soul, recommended for all who want to maintain health or simply experience the country’s beautiful natural resources.

When it comes to quality of life in a certain country, many factors are taken into consideration. From standard of living to sanitation, freedom of speech and protection of human rights, and when all these areas are evaluated, Slovenia is considered a country with one of the best quality of life standards in the whole world. In fact, according to the American Social Progress, it ranked 21st among 128 countries in 2017.

In general, it ranks above average in housing, health status, social connections, education, work-life balance, environmental quality and personal security.

A positive quality factor is also Slovenia’s infrastructure, the country features good roads with highway connections to neighbouring countries, a naval port and an airport with connections to all major European cities.

Slovenians also enjoy public health care, provided through the public health service network. Primary health care services are equally accessible to all people without discrimination and insured persons are also entitled to different financial benefits, such as compensation of salary during temporary absence from work due to illness or care.

Slovenia also prides itself on its quality educational system. The basic education is mandatory and free for all Slovenians (plus all under-age foreign citizens residing in Slovenia), funded mostly from the state budget, while a small share of the finance is also contributed by local authorities.

In terms of real estate, Slovenia has many opportunities for new real estate developments. Residential real estate demand is increasing, both for personal use and investment purposes.

As far as overall safety is concearned, Slovenia is considered a low-threat country for crime and for political, religious, economic and ethnic violence. So it is definitely safe to say, that Slovenia is on every one’s travel or living bucket list!

Travelling for business or pleasure? Why not both! The landscape of business travel is changing and as work-life boundaries blur, ‘bleisure’ – extending business trips with leisure days – is growing in popularity.

Business travel can take a toll on your energy levels. Taking just a little extra time off work and adding one or two vacation days to work-related travel is an opportunity to make the stress of business more bearable, recharge your batteries and return to work fresh and ready. Just think about it – spending the whole time in hotels, conference halls and offices does not really contribute to job satisfaction, success and productivity. But taking time for some personal delights, does.

Slovenia is perfect for mixing business and pleasure. From conference room to urban or nature exploration in minutes, this small country is the perfect place to unwind your body and mind after work. The best part? Even if you don’t have an extra day or two, and if your meeting ends in the early afternoon, for example, you still have time to visit some of the amazing places Slovenia has to offer. Medieval cities, picturesque hills, mountains, lakes, forests and even the seaside – all this is just an hour or two away by car. To top it off, this little European gem has one of the best places to wine and dine. For example, you can spoil your taste buds just an hour away from the capital city by the World’s Best Female Chef in 2017 in her Michelin star restaurant.

Slovenia is recognizing that blockchain is not technology of the future, but technology of today and an exceptional opportunity. Many professionals are seeing Slovenia as the Europe’s Silicon Valley when it comes to decentralized technologies and for good reasons. The country is building a cryptocurrency strategy, taking part in European projects and actively studying the experience of other countries which have already implemented blockchain in state administration.

Blockchain enterpreneurs and startups will be happy to know that the legal status of blockchain and cryptocurrencies in Slovenia is favourable. Due to its favourable legislation and comfortable conditions, the country is already home to several blockchain companies. In fact, the Tax Administration in Slovenia stated that cryptocurrencies are not considered as monetary assets and as such, they are not taxed.

In December, 2018, Slovenia will host the Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference, aiming to bring together the industry representatives and international experts and to further develop the blockchain community in the country.

Slovenia is definitely well on its way to become the leading destination of blockchain technology in Europe! So, if you are interested in opening a cryptocurrency company, there’s no better place to do it in!

Whatever your traveling heart desires, Slovenia has it all. Situated in Central Europe, it is a diverse country, where you can find anything from green forests, blue sea, and snow-capped mountains and therefore enjoy anything from skiing to hiking and swimming. The continental climate ensures cold winters and warm summers – making Slovenia a country that is both hot&cool, and the distances between locations are quite short, so you can visit the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea in a single day.

Slovenians are known for their love and respect for art and culture. Throughout the year, travelers can visit various festivals, exhibitions, concerts, theatres, not to mention numerous historic castles, buildings and other architectural treasures. One of these gems is the fairytale Predjama Castle, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest cave in the world.

Slovenia is THE place to wine and dine. It is famous for thousands of hectares of vineyards, where numerous world-renowned wines are produced, and for delicious food. True foodies have surely heard of Ana Roš who won the World’s Best Female Chef award in 2017 – yes, Slovenian food truly is something special to look forward to when visiting.

Ljubljana. The country’s capital and the “Green Capital” of Europe 2016. A charming city of just the right size for a quick one-day stay or for a vibrant holiday, where travelers can experience first hand, why the city is so loved by many.

Speaking of love, did you know that Slovenia is the only country in the world with the word “love” in its name? This, fellow travelers, is no coincidence. Slovenia is definitely a must-visit country you will love.
